Police cars were stationed at different roads off Pacific Coast Highway, such as Tahitian Terrace to prevent unauthorized access to Pacific Palisades.
When Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) opened two lanes in both directions on May 23, and the National Guard was pulled from the area, 16 Los Angeles Police Department checkpoints were put in place.
The first day went smoothly with no traffic tie-ups on PCH, but an analysis was done about the effectiveness of the checkpoints (TCP).
Commander Jonathon Tom reported on Saturday, May 24 that “The LAPD Incident Management Team conducted an assessment of the footprint and determined that three TCP’s were not necessary and that a fourth would be moved.”
Those removed were 1) Getty Villa and PCH: the location is gated with no vehicle access. 2) Driftwood and PCH: The location is gated with no vehicle access. 3) Las Pulgas and PCH: also gated.
The posting at Entrada has been pushed back to Channel east of PCH. “Currently the intersection(s) of PCH and Entrada, Chautauqua and Channel are one large TCP supported by a Sergeant and 10 officers,” Tom said.
Additionally, a vehicle checkpoint remains in place at PCH and Porto Marina.
The Commander also noted that they spoke to businesspeople on Channel, who expressed concern about the lack of patron access. That has been rectified by “the traffic off Channel has been adjusted to allow two-way access on Channel, facilitating valet parking availability in the evening hours.

A resident reported on Saturday that “I went to go check on my lot. A police officer saw me walking on my property and asked me for my ID.” The resident said that he wanted to give a shout out to Officer Mike. “I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to check in while I was at my property in the Palisades today. I appreciate your diligence and professionalism-it’s reassuring to know the area is being looked at so attentively.”

Today, Gates Security’s Sergeant Fine stopped three individuals who were picking up copper wire by the Via De Las Olas Bluffs. He asked to see a resident/contractor’s pass that would allow them in the area.
When they did not produce one, he called LAPD, who arrived and discovered burglary tools in the car. The three men were arrested and the car impounded. Commander Tom was asked how the three gained access, given the security checkpoints.
“The suspects used a copy of a pass to gain entry,” Tom said. “The three suspects were arrested for possession of burglary tools and we requested filing for unauthorized access to a disaster area with the intent to commit a crime.”
Good job, LAPD. Making arrests makes a difference. Cudos to Von’s for putting in the work to aid the community at the expense of profits…nurturing loyalty can be just as good. And has anybody heard anything about US Bank and their safe deposit boxes?
Black Knight security reported to me several days ago about 4 people walking the streets on the Catellemare hill with backpacks and when questioned said that it is a public street. They were definitely scoping and then again another resident reported today two people with backpacks also walking the area. I am certain that this is the case throughout the PP so stay alert and have your cameras ready…..
