Palisades-Malibu Lowe YMCA Christmas Tree lot will open on Black Friday, November 28. There will be trees, wreaths and garland available. Hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Executive Director Jim Kirtley, with the help of limited staff and a few volunteers, unloaded the first truckload of trees on November 23. A second shipment came on November 24. Trees have been put in stands and are lined up ready for homes.
This year customers will be able to choose between Nordman, Frasier, Nobel and Vintage Nobel (a.k.a. Charlie Brown) trees. Tree sizes range in size from tabletop to 12 ft. trees, but shop quick because the smaller and larger trees are limited. Prices go from $40 to $800. There is limited delivery available, because Kirtley only has one driver this year.
Garland is $10 a foot and there are two sizes of wreaths 12” and 24” that retail for $30 and $60.
Also, for sale are clever and cute reindeer decorations made from recycled tree trunks and branches. The Santa Monica holiday glass sale will be held December 6.
Kirtley was asked about where the revenue would go and he said programming. He was asked about the $8 million Lowe Family Donation and also the $10 million donation from L.A. County. He said that money is designated and can only be used for construction of a new facility. That money cannot be used towards the programs that benefit the community such as the teen government program or wellness or camps.
