The Dark Invades Universal Studios

By LAUREL BUSBY

Special to Circling the News

The forces of darkness attempt a Hogwarts invasion this month at Universal Studios.

Until April 28 and again over Memorial Day weekend, the creatures of the dark will try to scale the castle walls and destroy this bastion of goodness and light.

The approximately 7-1/2-minute spectacle is the newest and most elaborate of the light displays projected onto Hogwarts Castle in the evenings.

These shows are an added treat within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which since its opening has become the most popular part of the amusement park.

The experience includes occasional bursts of flame, theater-quality sound, and a movie that plays across the castle walls showing both an attack and the effect of that attack on the interior of the castle. In addition, drone projection provides a surprise ending that caused oohs from recent crowds.

If you have already viewed one of the older shows, you’ll find this one to be a step beyond in scope and effect. However, beware that you can’t view the ending if you’re standing too close to Hogwarts.

The best viewing area is to the left of the castle in the expanse in front of the TriWizard Stage, so avoid the open area between the two rides, Flight of the Hippogriff and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Visit: universalstudioshollywood.com.
