Palisadian Spencer Pratt Announces He’s Running for Mayor

Spencer Pratt announced his candidacy.

At the “Let It Burn Rally” in Pacific Palisades today, January 7, long-time resident and one of the town’s most vocal advocates announced he was running for Mayor in the June 2026, primary.

At the rally attended by thousands, Pratt said, “The system in Los Angeles isn’t struggling, it’s fundamentally broken. It is a machine designed to protect the people at the top and the friends they exchange favors with while the rest of us drown in toxic smoke and ash.”

Pratt added, “Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I’m done waiting for someone to take real action. That’s why I am running for mayor.”

Pratt has been an advocate for the Palisades, since the deadly January 7 Fire killed 12 people and destroyed nearly 7,000 homes and businesses, including his own home.

He and wife Heidi Montag, along with several other Pacific Palisades property owners, were among the first to file a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power over damage to their properties during the Palisades Fire. They now have been joined by thousands of other residents.

Pratt was one of the first people to speak out about the lack of water in the reservoir, and the problem with infrastructure.

He has been relentless on social media about the failings of local and state government, and it is partially through his questioning of the start of the fire and the ensuing destruction that U.S. Senators Rick Scott and Ron Johnson opened an investigation into the fires.

When this editor was being ignored for questioning why WildFire Concert funds not going to survivors, Pratt stepped in to keep the issue alive. Congressman Kevin Kiley and Jim Jordan responded and there is an interim report that acknowledges money was misspent.

A political outsider, Pratt, unlike many current politicians, is not beholden to unions or to people for favors.

Most recently, he received an award Awesome Advocate from the Pacific Palisades Community Council, for outspoken support for the community and the need for answers about the fire.

Pratt, 42, grew up in Pacific Palisades and has been a reality star for 20 years, since creating and producing the short-lived reality series The Princes of Malibu for Fox. He and Montag also starred in The Hills on MTV, beginning in 2006. They have two children.

Currently the following candidates have announced they will run and Pratt joins the incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, Asaad Alnajjar and Austin Beutner.

You’ve got to be kidding. What experience does he have to run a big city like LA. For sure he would be better than Bass but we need someone with experience. I hope Caruso will take on the job.

  2. Sue says:

One might say the same about Bass – did she have experience to run a City?
What kind of experience do you need to run a City? What kind of resume? It’s something to think about.
