The Palisades Art Association will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, in the Palisades Library, 861 Alma Real.
Artist Jen LaVita will be the guest speaker and will present a slide show of her art. At the end of her lecture, she will give a painting demonstration.
LaVita said that even in her youth she’s always been an artist and working with pastels was her “first love.” Her work is colorful, vibrant and often concentrated on nature.
She grew up outside of Boston and received her bachelor’s degree in fine art in advertising design from Syracuse University. While in college, she joined Army ROTC.
After graduation, she served in the U.S. Army as an Air Defense Artillery Officer. During that time, she led soldiers, flew a blimp and jumped out of “perfectly good airplanes.”
After her service, even though she professed love for the New England winters and summers, she moved west to California.
LaVita creates out of the Grand View Fine Arts Studio in Mar Vista and regularly shows work and live paints at various venues throughout Los Angeles.
Her murals can be found throughout Los Angeles. She is also a member the performance group, the Night Owl Players and the United States Veterans’ Artists Alliance. Visit: jenlavita.com or Instagram @jenlavitaart.
