Even as the Palisades Fire destroyed Pierson Playhouse, the home of the Palisades Community Theater, young actors continue to bring quality theater to the Palisades and surrounding area, with the opening of Hadestown, tonight, July 24 at 7 p.m.
These talented performers are incredible as they perform music and lyrics by Anais Mitchell. Hadestown was the winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Orchestration.
Hadestown Teen Edition follows two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone. Join performers as they travel to the underworld and back.
The musical is inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz. This musical cleverly pits industry against nature, doubt against faith and fear against love.
Performances are at 7 p.m. at the Paul Revere Middle School at 1450 Allenford Avenue on Thursday, July 24, Friday, July 25, Wednesday, July 30, Thursday, July 31 and Friday, August 1. Showtimes on Saturdays July 26 and August 2 are at noon and 3 p.m.
Tickets priced from $15 to $30 are available at https://theatrepalisades.org/youth
(Editor’s note: In my long line of jobs, I once did standup. One night I performed to an audience of two, another night the show was cancelled because there was no one in the audience. There are no words to say how hard that is or how heartbreaking, especially if one has spent all their time practicing. Please come out and support these teen performers. It will be satisfying to you and to them as everyone tries to reclaim what made the Palisades great.)

Saw the show tonight and loved it!! Bravo!!
