According to a November 23 L.A. Daily News story (“Homicides in L.A. Top 300, most since 2009”), Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore had warned of a possible increase in crimes because budget cuts at the LAPD, passed by the L.A. City Council in June, are resulting in downsizing of the force.
“The spate of violence Saturday (four people were fatally shot) comes just over a month after LAPD Chief Michel Moore warned of the alarming number homicides reported this year,” the News reported. “Moore said the violence may partly be the result of the economic hardship faced by many people left without work as businesses were ordered to cut operations or close to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.”
