“We mailed about 17,000 notices of assessment change to property owners in the fire area. We have now started to receive many back as undeliverable – well over a thousand in Palisades alone. That means that the property tax refund checks that were mailed are also being returned as undeliverable,” L.A. County Public Assessor Jeff Prang wrote in press release distributed by Public Information Officer Stephen Whitmore.
The Assessor’s office mails documents to the address they have on file, which is typically the actual property address, but in this case, that property is damaged or destroyed.
“We desperately need property owners to update their mailing address to ensure that they receive their refunds and other critical documents,” Prang said and asked neighbors and residents who know of others residing at other addresses to please update the records.
He gave two options and said the best was to register your property and set up an online profile, which could be helpful for other issues. The second option is to do a simple change of mailing address (links below).
- Register Property – Create Owner Profile: click here.
- Change of Mailing Address: click here.
I updated our new mailing address February 10th. Because we were still receiving mail from the assessor at the 90272 address I checked with the assessor’s office on May 14th, and the representative at the DRC said it will be months before mailing addresses are updated.
