A free community afternoon concert will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at Brentwood Presbyterian Church, 12000 San Vicente Blvd. Los Angeles 90049. This concert is hosted by Chamber Music Palisades (CMP) and reservations are not needed.
Cantilena Duo performers are Kenton Youngstrom on guitar and CMP co-founder/artistic director Susan Greenberg on flute and piccolo. The program feature works for solo guitar, which includes Asturias (Isaac Albeniz), Capricho Arabe (Francisco Tarrega) and Prelude No.1 (Heitor Villa-Lobos).
There are duets for flute and guitar by French, Spanish, Brazilian and Argentinian composers, including Histoire Du Tango – Bordel 1900, Café 1930 and Nightclub 1960 (Astor Piazzolla).
A piece that sounds fascinating is Wren Polka, OP.70 (Eugene Damarre), which features a piccolo and guitar.
Greenberg was a member of the LA Chamber Orchestra for 36 years and is presently the principal flutist with the Santa Monica Symphony and the Vicente Chamber Orchestra. She is the flute professor at Pepperdine University and the Artistic Director of Chamber Music Palisades.
Youngstrom is an award-winning guitarist, composer, arranger and educator has performed and recorded classical, jazz and rock music around the world. His most recent recordings include “Voices of the Collection, Vols. 1&2,” “Jazz Roads Suite,” and the rerelease of “Virtuoso Music for Three Guitars.”
The concert is sponsored by Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles. Parking is available in the church lot.
