The American Legion Ronald Reagan-Palisades Post 283 is launching an effort for military veterans to help the community rebuild.

The Legion building at 15247 La Cruz Dr., largely escaped the horrific fire that destroyed an estimated 12,000 residence, schools and businesses in the Palisades.

As part of the fabric and a pillar to the community, Post 283 members are coming together to be a part of the rebuild process.

“Our goal is to provide essential resources and coordinated communication channels for first responders, the press and the community, as our building is one of the few left standing,” said Commander Joe Ramirez. “We are working on stabling power, water and Internet for functionality. We look forward to working together.”

Here’s what the Legion would like to offer – once residents are allowed back into the area:

* Bottled water, masks, gloves, and other essential supplies

* Tools like shovels and trashbags

* A space for the community to leave messages and coordinate support efforts

“Post 283 is committed to supporting the community in this time of need, and while access to the area remains critical to fully mobilize our resources, we are complying with the orders of law enforcement,” Ramirez said. “As soon as it is safe and lawful to do so, we will open our doors to assist the community.”
