Marquez Charter Elementary will continue a long-standing tradition with its annual Halloween Carnival on October 22.

This year’s Marquez Boo Bash! will take place from noon to 2:30 p.m.at 1950 Palisades Drive

Even though its at different location than the school, it’s amazing that the “spirit” and tradition still survive.

In 2023, this editor asked how old the tradition was and then Friends of Marquez President Caitlin Machol said the fundraiser dates “back well before any of the current parents can remember.”

This editor’s 33-year-old daughter went with a friend when she was six years old and was disappointed she didn’t win a goldfish. That means the event must be at least 30 years old or even older.

There will be games, activities, tricks and treats, and the community is invited to attend. All money raised will go to benefit the Enrichment Fund, which supplements the school budget at Marquez.

Additionally, Principal Lisa Timmerman invited all former families to come back and visit the teachers and the school tomorrow, Friday, October 24, at 8:30 a.m.

Perspective families are invited to tour the school, located 16821 Marquez Avenue on October 28 and November 4 at 8:30 a.m. click here.

This event was held at Marquez when I attended in the late 1960s (so it’s at least 55 years old), although I don’t believe that it was called a Boo Bash back then. I remember being lucky enough to actually win a goldfish by bouncing a ping pong ball into a fish bowl, and participating in the costume contest. Lots of fond memories of those days.
