A special “Treat or Treat” luncheon was held for Pacific Palisades seniors on October 30, at the American Legion, hosted by the Palisades Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG). James Kwon of Palisades Garden Café provided the sandwiches, and the pumpkins that were used as a centerpieces, were provided by Palisades-Malibu YMCA Executive Director Jim Kirtley.
The LTRG is headed by Palisadians Jim Cragg and Jessica Rogers. This nonprofit’s mission is to connect survivors to a network of donor relief organizations, that will provide resources such as money, manpower and materials.
Cragg told residents after lunch “Tell us if you think this luncheon was valuable. Tell us if there’s something you need. We’re here for you.” Email: info@paliltrg.org
Part of the LTRG program includes a disaster case management model. People can pair with a Disaster Case Manager (DCM), who will try to find extra assistance for housing, insurance or other needs. A CDM will conduct outreach and intake information, complete a comprehensive assessment to document each client’s disaster-related unmet needs and work closely with the person to develop a recovery plan and connect with available resources.
At the luncheon, which was attended by more than 150 people, there were DCM’s, and also representatives from Representative Brad Sherman’s office, CalPac, Habitat for Humanity and the SBA, who were ready to answer questions.
Speakers included Kay Gabbard, a 2018 Woolsey Fire Survivor, and Victoria Villa, who spoke about Lutheran Disaster Response and what was available for victims.
Resident Jimmy Dunne read an original piece “Something’s Missing in My Life”
| It’s about a whisper in life that may say, ‘something’s missing.’ Not about a thing we wish we had, but about a part of ourselves that we may want ‘back.’
“Something’s Missing in My Life” We built a new home in the suburbs What can I say, my job is great But… I know this seems insipid Maybe what’s missing in my life |
