Streets were closed in Pacific Palisades on November 23 for a Palibu Recovery Expo. Hosted by the Palisades–Malibu (PaliBu) Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Economic Recovery, the streets were filled with exhibitions of new fire-resistant products that could aid in building more resiliently.

PaliBu Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Ramis Sadrieh said, “This a large-scale outdoor event showcasing exhibitors that are all focused on helping residents rebuild, recover and thrive.” (See below)

Sadrieh, who is the founder of Technology for You! said that the expo allowed Palisades and Malibu residents to speak directly to those organizations offering construction services.

He also promised that “we’re taking this chamber to an all-new level. We’re going to be a strong chamber, not a boutique chamber anymore.”

It was an opportunity to speak to city agencies, too. Building and Safety representatives were at the expo, and this editor was told that if any person needs help with a specific question on rebuilding or construction, there is now a Palisades concierge to answer those questions. Contact Michael “Erik” Pelham palisadespermitconcierge@lacity.org.

CTN also asked about sidewalk repair. Before the fire there were numerous sidewalks that were not ADA accessible, and after the fire, the sidewalks are still in bad shape. The name given to contact about sidewalks was Julia Sanchez de la Vega, who is the supervisor for sidewalk compliance. (Julia.sanchezdelavega@lacity.org) or possibly Nur Mathis of the street improvement division nur.mathis@lacity.org.

Councilmember Traci Park was available to speak to constituents. L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath and State Senator Ben Allen had staff at the event. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass’ West Area Representative Marian Ensley was also in attendance.

Resident Deanne Wilken was looking at several of the booths and felt the expo was “valuable with new building products so that we don’t end up in the same spot we are now.”

Maryam Zar, who is the new CEO of the Palisades-Malibu Chamber of Commerce, was pleased with the attendance, the crowds and the event.  “It allowed residents, businesses, and agencies to come together on one space, which will make recovery faster.”

Businesses displayed the latest in building resiliently.
