The Pali Strong Foundation, started by Highlands resident Larry Vein, hosted an event at the Santa Monica Pier on May 6. (Editor’s note: This Pali Strong is not to be confused with the Palisades High School Pali Strong, started on January 8 by students to raise money for the high school click here.).
The event provided an evening for friends and neighbors from Pacific Palisades to Malibu to Altadena/Pasadena/Sierra Madre to come together after the devastating fires.
Vein said, “This night is about us—a time for unity, joy, and celebrating the unbreakable spirit of our community, as we come together to heal and reconnect.”
Jimmy Dunne was the emcee and local officials, such as Mayor Karen Bass, L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath and Councilmember Traci Park were honored as heroes for their efforts in leading the fire recovery. Everyone who was acknowledged received a medal.
Also honored were the National Guard and the members of the Los Angeles Police Department.
People who rsvp’d to the event were allowed to nominate community members they felt were heroes and those people were recognized, too.
There were several local news channels taping the event, which was held during a beautiful evening as the sun was setting over the ocean. The lights from the Ferris Wheel and roller coaster lit up the sky.
There was music, free hamburgers, wine and beer and people will be able to make a personalized tile that will be placed on a future wall in the Palisades (this was for Pacific Palisades residents only).
After the awards were presented, a live band played music that was much appreciated by the crowd. A good time was had by all click here.
