Beginning Tuesday evening, some lanes will be closed on the San Diego (405) Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass during overnight hours as Caltrans crews work on the median barriers.

The state agency said the overnight closures will begin at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, continuing until 6 a.m. the following mornings. Up to two lanes on both the northbound and southbound freeway between Wilshire Boulevard and Mulholland Drive/Skirball Center Drive are expected to be affected.

According to Caltrans, extended weekend lane closures will occur about every two weeks along various sections of the 405 Freeway for about 25 weekends with completion anticipated in the winter of 2028/2029. The project covers a 10.2-mile stretch of the road between Van Nuys and Westwood and will replace sections of two lanes or about 92 lane miles. Closures will not take place through holiday weekends. Construction will be suspended during the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The next extended weekend closure is set for Friday, September 5. The freeway will be reduced to just three lanes in each direction starting at 10 p.m. Friday, September 5 through 5 a.m. Monday, September 8.

The work is part of the $143.7 million, I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Van Nuys and Westwood. To see the project website click here.
