Many may remember that a huge chunk of Pacific Palisades was destroyed a year ago in the Palisades Fire. Due to lack of individual funds, financing and adequate insurance money for rebuilding is occurring at a snail’s pace.
There has been nonexistent street repair because the City told one resident that they were waiting for rebuilding to be finished before they fix the giant potholes and pavement breaks. There are also no streetlights in much of Pacific Palisades – copper wire theft or vandalism—no one is quite sure the reason, but nighttime lights have not been returned to the destroyed town.
Last night a resident reported that at 5:20 a.m. there “were no streetlights, two shadow LADP cars that looked like they hadn’t been washed in two weeks and have been parked in the same place the last few days, when a group of 15 to 20 ATV and dirt bike riders (one resident counted closer to 50). The riders were allegedly armed with pipes, chains and guns, roared up Temescal Canyon Boulevard and onto Sunset, using both sides of the road.
Residents reported that three guys flipped their motorcycles and were hurt on Sunset. Their fellow bikers kept going and did not stop to help. A call to 911 went unanswered for 30 minutes.
The Los Angeles Police Department Palisades Senior Lead Officer Brian Espin was called, but his voice mail said he was not working that day.
Residents said there was a traffic tie up that resulted in a 34-minute drive for the three-mile stretch from the Village Green to Capri Drive (Riviera).
(Editor’s note: Many may remember the motorcyclist killed on Sunset and Chautauqua Boulevard in April 2017.)
