Letter: Ask Mayor Bass to Support Council Resolution Opposing SB 79

State Senator Scott Wiener would like Los Angeles to zone single family home lots to add density so they could look like the slums of Rio de Janerio.

(Editor’s note: CTN received the letter and information about SB 79 from United Neighbors, a coalition of neighborhood residential groups throughout California. “Our common goal is to protect multi-family and single-family neighborhoods while supporting affordable and equitable housing for all. The rights of all residents and the rights of people needing affordable housing are bound together, and the solution to our affordable housing crisis requires thoughtful, effective, and rapid-acting legislation with community input. click here.)

Hi,

We are told that Mayor Karen Bass has 12 days to act on the Resolution passed on August 19 in City Council regarding SB 79.  If she sits on it for several days, we lose the window our lobbyists need to influence the vote. We need everyone to send a letter to the mayor today.

We must do this today, please.  All of us and our networks must send hundreds of letters to her or this action by the council will be meaningless. Trust us, we are told we must do this now.

Thank you,

United Neighbors – Maria, Cindy, Jeff, Marc

United Neighbors sent a one-click option for letter that can be sent (or craft your own) to Mayor and three other officials and ask that you add your name and where you live at the end.

SUBJECT: SAVE OUR NEIGHBORHOODS! SIGN RESOLUTION CF 25-0002-S19 PROMPTLY!

Dear Mayor Bass,

We request that you promptly sign Resolution CF 25-0002-S19 passed on Tuesday, August 19, by City Council to oppose SB 79 unless amended to exempt jurisdictions with a certified Housing Element.

We ask you to stand up for your diverse LA communities and for local control in light of the fact that our LA Housing Element is state certified and adds all the housing density required by the state while not destroying communities.

Respectfully,

(Editor’s note: Mayor Bass signed the resolution today. Perhaps people should send this letter to Governor Gavin Newsom, who says he takes to position on upcoming legislation, but if he truly is a leader, he should. click here.)

Re asking Karen Bass about protecting Single family residential area in high fire zones such as Pacific Palisades and Altadena areas by not increasing housing density but I was unable to find a way to edit (add my name and address) to the pre-formed letter to Karen Bass. Sorry I am unable to help.
