A year after the Palisades Fire a group of talented artists are coming together to offer “Healing and Renewal: Concerts of Remembrance” at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 1031 Bienveneda Avenue. Prior to the concerts at 1 and 7 p.m. community prayers will be offered at noon and 6 p.m. followed by an interlude and refreshments on the patio. There is free parking.
The 1 p.m. concert features violinist Anne Akiko Meyers and members of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, conducted by Grant Gershon.
Meyers is a GRAMMY® Award winning violinist and one of the world’s most celebrated musicians and passionate advocates for contemporary music and composers. She is a former Pacific Palisades resident and has led the artistic planning for the concerts.
Gershon is currently in his 17th season as Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale. He also serves as resident conductor for the LA Opera. Music will include pieces by J.S. Bach, Morten Lauridsen and Eric Whitacre.
The 7 p.m. concert includes Meyers, but this time it is conducted by Lucinda Carver, featuring The Palisades Strings. Music will include selections from J.S. Bach and Eric Whitacre.
Carver, a conductor and harpsichord player, enjoys a rich career as a piano soloist and recitalist, as well as a professor of piano, harpsichord, and instrumental conducting at the USC Thornton School of Music. As a conductor, she has worked with acclaimed symphonies, festivals, and operas in LA, around the country, and across the globe.
The concerts are free, but if one is able, a $45 donation can be made at the door or online ahead of time at https://www.musicguildonline.org/event/special-event-2025/. (310) 573-0722. All donations are fully tax deductible. Proceeds will benefit these Palisades-based organizations: Chamber Music Palisades, Palisades Symphony and Chorale, St. Matthew’s Music Guild, and Theatre Palisades all of which were impacted by the fire, either directly through loss of venue or through loss of audience with the destruction of so many homes.
