After what we’ve been through this year, it’s nice to have some good news for Pacific Palisades.
This is an entertainment story. So that good news comes in the form of Emmy nominations – a lot of them for Palisadians and some with ties to the Palisades.
Two Palisades residents and a third with Palisades roots are nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Adam Brody, who lost his home in the Palisades Fire, is up for Nobody Wants This. It’s his first Emmy nomination.
Jason Segel, who grew up in the Palisades and now lives in Ojai, has his second Emmy nomination. Like the first time he was nominated a couple of years ago, this one, too, is for Shrinking.
Former honorary Pacific Palisades mayor Martin Short is nominated again for an Emmy for Only Murders in the Building. It’s his fourth nomination in this category for this show. During his career, Short has racked up 19 Emmy nominations in various categories and he’s won twice.
Jamie Lee Curtis is again nominated as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. It’s for The Bear. She won the Emmy for that same role last year.
Palisades High grad Forest Whitaker is nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. It’s for Andor, part of the Star Wars universe. This is Whitaker’s fourth career Emmy nomination. He won in 2003 for the TV movie, Door to Door.
All five of the current TV series mentioned above are up for Outstanding Series: Andor for Outstanding Drama Series and The Bear, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building and Shrinking for Outstanding Comedy Series. New honorary Palisades co-mayor Ted McGinley also stars in Shrinking.
Tom Hanks has a new Emmy nomination. It’s for narrating The Americas – Andes. This is his 18th Emmy nomination over the years in a variety of categories. He’s won seven times.
Thomas Newman and his daughter, composer Julia Newman, are nominated together for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special (Original Dramatic Score). It’s for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. This is Thomas Newman’s fifth Emmy nomination. He won for composing the theme for Six Feet Under. This is Julia Newman’s first Emmy nomination.
There are three new Emmy nominations for Conan O’Brien. We’ll start with the Oscars show which he hosted. The category is Outstanding Variety Special (Live). O’Brien also is nominated in two categories for his travel show, Conan O’Brien Must Go. He and the show are up for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special and for Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program. Over his career, O’Brien has 33 Emmy nominations and has won five times.

Conan O’Brien has three nominations this year, including as part of the Oscars team that shaped the awards show.
Adam Sandler now has eight Emmy nominations over his career. Two of them were announced this week. One is for Adam Sandler: Love You as Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). The other is for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for a song he co-wrote and sang on SNL50: The Anniversary Special. The song is a look back at Saturday Night Live over the years from both an insider’s and viewer’s perspective.
Miles Teller, who lost his home in the Palisades Fire, has an Emmy nomination as executive producer of The Gorge, which is up for Outstanding Television Movie. He also starred in the movie.
Lesli Linka Glatter, who lost her Palisades home in the fire, has been nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Zero Day. She now has nine career Emmy nominations. Most are for directing Homeland.
Though Kathy Bates doesn’t live in the Palisades, there’s a connection. She has an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The series is Matlock and it’s produced by Palisadian Eric Christian Olsen who lost his home in the fire. When Bates won the same category at the Critics Choice Awards about one week after the fire, she wrapped up her thank you speech by referring to her new trophy and said “I just want to tell Eric Olsen, who hasn’t quite found a home yet, this is coming to you first thing for décor.”
The Primetime Emmy Awards rotate from one network to another each year. This year’s show airs on CBS, Sunday, September 14. It’ll be live starting at 5 p.m. Pacific.

Additionally, Palisadian Lesli Linka Glatter who lost her home in the fire, received a nomination for Outstanding Directing for Zero Day. Congratulations to Lesli!
Hi. Missed Ted McGinley whose show Shrinkin was nominated for best show. They had a total of 7 nominations. I think Jason Segal lived in the Palisades as well, along with his wife who is in the show.
