Security cars have been parked in the Will Rogers State Beach parking lot.
The deadly Palisades Fire destroyed half a town, but left homes standing in the Canyon, Huntington and Riveria areas of Pacific Palisades. When the town reopened June 14, there was concern of looting and trespassing.
The City promised residents that they would have LAPD coverage 24 hours a day, that two sergeants and 20 Los Angeles Police Department officers would be assigned to patrol and safeguard Pacific Palisades. In addition, both the California Highway Patrol and a private security company, Absolute International Security, hired by the City, would assist the LAPD.
Palisades Senior Lead Officer Brian Espin wrote on August 28, “As of now we are still keeping our current footprint of a combination of LAPD, CHP patrolling in the Palisades. The City will not renew the private contract security companies after the first week of September mainly due to cost.
“They will be leaving the Palisades. They have done a great job of assisting us (LAPD) with the extra eyes and ears for the community,” Espin said.
One CTN reader wrote “The city can’t afford to provide protection to the area, but they can spend tens of thousands of dollars per day protecting Kamala Harris as she goes out to dinner for sushi.”
Former U.S. Vice-presidents traditionally receive six months of Secret Service, compared to life-time coverage for presidents, and President Donald Trump had suspended Harris’ Secret Service protection.
Mayor Karen Bass had directed LAPD to assist the California Highway Patrol in the wake of Trump’s move, which she called an act of “political retaliation.”
But yesterday, LAPD, part of the Metro Division, was no longer stationed at Harris’ Brentwood home. It appears the detail has been pulled.
Espin also said the majority of the crimes occurring in the Palisades now are “primarily theft of tools and a package theft here and there. Please remind any of your contractors working in the area to keep their tools and equipment secured at all times, even if they are physically there working.”
Espin gave the following tips:
- Check your property often (or have someone check it for you), to prevent squatters or someone frequently entering your property.
- Tell your construction crews to secure their tools and equipment to prevent theft. Do not leave tools lying in the back of trucks or unlocked vehicles.
- Have construction crews GPS tag all high-end equipment.
- Place and secure tools and equipment in well-lit areas of the property and monitored by security cameras.
This is bull shit , The city completely burned us down and now they’re leaving us at the mercy of all the homeless and criminals.
We are renting in Santa Monica which has street cleaning “no parking” days. We left our car in our Palisades (Alphabet street) driveway (we have no house…but there is still a driveway), when we went on vacation, and our catalytic converter was stolen. People should know this is happening.
We down at One Coast and have had an issue with squatters. We now have more security and hopefully these folks ( unwelcome visitors) won’t be returning.
Absolutely disgusting that the worthless Mayor failed to protect the Palisades and left the reservoir DRY during the height of Fire Season. She should have been removed for incompetence and sued for negligence by the thousands of Homeowners. This city is a complete disgrace and Karen Bass is nothing but a communist traitor. I hope the Palisades will one day return to its beautiful self, but with Bass and Newsom trying to buy lots for pennies on the dollar to carry out the liberal plan of placing section 8 housing right in the middle of this peaceful community. Slowly but surely they will destroy anything they can get their hands on. Think before you vote for the next Mayor and Governor. Do your history search as if you had done with Bass you would have seen she ran a communist party in Cuba when she was younger and has always wanted the United States to be a 3rd world country like everything else they touch!
