A structure fire was reported at 10:45 p.m. on December 25, at 17287 Avenida De La Herradura in the Palisades Highlands. There were 35 firefighters, who responded and extinguished the fire in 37 minutes. There were no injuries reported. (Editor’s note: the actual address is 17621 Avenida De La Herradura. The fire report had it listed as 17287.)
It was a garage fire that extended into a two-story single family dwelling.
A LAFD Media spokesperson said that an arson unit had been sent to the fire. CTN reached out to arson investigations to see if there had been a determination, but there was no response on Sunday. When the arson unit responds the story will be updated.
Neighbors contacted CTN because they had reasons to believe it was arson, because they allege the person living there had set a fire in April that “almost took out the cul-de-sac.”
Neighbors said that the person living in the home had also been served a notice to vacate at the beginning of December.
“The occupants told the fireman that their dryer caught fire,” a resident said, but said none of the residents believed it was an accident and added “it is one of the few cul-de-sacs that has a majority of homes still standing post fire.”
(Editor’s note: the following message was received December 29 from LAFD: “In accordance with Section 7920 of the California Government Code, records of investigations conducted by, or investigatory files compiled by, any local police agency for law enforcement purposes, are exempt from disclosure. The information you seek are investigative records or properly part of an open investigatory file; therefore, we are denying your request.”)

The house in the picture is at 17261
Thanks, another Highlands resident told me that, too. When I called the fire department, I used the house number they had–and forgot to change it in the story, doing it now.
