After a press conference at Simon Meadow on August 14 to announce a new facility, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass was asked about the status of the after-action report for the Palisades Fire on January 7.

Bass was told that many people in Pacific Palisades do not have the money to rebuild because of insurance issues and yet others are hesitant to rebuild because they have no answers about the fire, and why it was not controlled.

She was asked, “When will the after-action report be done, so that people can see what happened?”

“It should be this month,” Bass said.

Today, August 19, the Mayor sent out a statement regarding the LAFD After Action Report:
“According to state regulations (California Code of Regulations, Title 19, § 2450), the City of Los Angeles is required to complete an after action report regarding the Palisades Fire.

“Late last week, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California requested the report be held to avoid interference with the ongoing federal investigation,” Bass said. “Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the after-action report will be released in coordination with the United States Department of Justice.”

The acting U.S. Attorney Bilal Essayli’s office was contacted today and asked if there was a timeline for when the federal report would be released.

Public Affairs Officer Ciaran McEvoy responded, “We have no comment. Thank you.”

    Hmmm…

There is an analysis as to why Karen Bass is “playing ball” with the Trump administration (federal government) on You tube.
This person questioned why Karen Bass was going along with the Trump administration
Regarding holding off on releasing the report.
After all, she publicly states she does not agree with Trump afminustration on many items.
So why hold off releasing the report….unless….
It may say, “blame” is going to an agency that is shielded from ligation
If true, no one will ever be held accountable for this complete mis management of the Pacific Palisades fire
    Very sad
    My 2 cents

  4. Patrice Dobrowitsky says:

Former Fire Chief Crowley is suing the city. We should all write to every City Council member and the Mayor to NOT PAY CROWLEY ONE CENT!!!

  5. Jane Permaul says:

After Action Report is already late in its completion. Now that it is, shouldn’t we request that the US Attorney complete its investigation asap and give us a projected date that the After Action Report can be made public? We the public, and especially the Palisade residents have a RIGHT to know NOW.

  6. Martin Kappeyne says:

We should request our representatives to request an accelerated release of the report or at least give us insight into what the general conclusions are.

  7. Sue says:

    Jane,

I asked the U.S. Attorney for a timeline, but was told “No comment.”
