Chamber Music Palisades will present its second concert of its 29th season at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, in the sanctuary of the Brentwood Presbyterian Church, 12000 San Vicente Boulevard.
This concert will feature flute, harp, violin and viola in a variety of pieces by Fiorillo, Saint-Saens, Faure, Rolla, Broughton, and Ravel. Alan Chapman, KUSC host and long-time Chamber Music Palisades associate will provide his informative in-person program notes.
On the flute is Susan Greenberg who co-founded Chamber Music Palisades in 1997. She is a former flutist with Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and presently principal flute with Santa Monica Symphony. Greenberg has been a soloist, chamber musician, symphony player and recording artist. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UCLA and is presently an adjunct professor at Pepperdine and Santa Monica Colleges.
Cristina Montes Mateo is the principal harpist with the Hollywood Bowl and frequent member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mateo is recognized as one of the leading harpists of her generation throughout the world. She has won six International Awards and is the principal harp at the Opera House of Valencia, and harpist with the King and Queen of Spain. She is a famed international soloist.
British violinist Maya Magub, based in Los Angeles, has performed in many of the world’s greatest concert halls, and on numerous movies and records. Maya has toured extensively abroad, including performances in Tokyo, Mumbai, Rio and throughout Europe and the USA. In her 20s, Maya was invited by Queen Elizabeth II to Buckingham Palace as part of an event honoring “young achievers.” In 2015, Maya performed unaccompanied Bach to Professor Stephen Hawking in a concert celebrating his 50th year with Cambridge University, at Gonville and Caius College.
Rob Brophy is a member of the New Hollywood String Quartet, performing with them throughout the Southland for the last six years. The quartet recently became quartet-in-residence at South Pasadena Library’s Restoration Concert Series. He holds degrees from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England and Rice University, where he studied with James Dunham, formerly of the Cleveland Quartet.
Tickets are available for $35 online at cmpalisades.org or at the door the evening of the concert. Admission is free for full-time students with ID.
