(Editor’s note: This editor met Lauren Hunter a counselor, while taking a Marquez School Tour. Hunter sent the following letter.)
I hope this note finds you well and that the transition back to the Palisades is going as smoothly as possible. It was such a pleasure meeting you at the Marquez campus tour, where Cedars-Sinai had a table with resources for families navigating the challenges of displacement after the Palisades fires.
I wanted to share with you all the services that the Cedars-Sinai Share & Care program will be offering to the community during the 2025/2026 school year. This year, both Marquez Elementary and Palisades Charter Elementary will receive Share & Care support, including parent groups, teacher support, classroom interventions and our traditional small-group counseling services.
Because of current space limitations, we’ll begin by focusing on parent support groups:
- Palisades Charter Parent Support Group – Beginning Wednesday, October 1, 2025, weekly in person at the Parent Center. (Flyer attached)
- Marquez Parent Support Group – Beginning Thursday, October 2, 2025, weekly on Zoom until the campus reopens. (Flyer attached)
In addition, we are also offering monthly virtual parent workshops, each focused on a new topic to provide practical tips, tools, and an opportunity for parents to connect and support one another. These workshops are open to all parents, and I’ve attached the flyer with more details.
If families are interested in having their children participate in Share & Care throughout the year, we’ve also attached the consent form. Signed forms can be returned to the front office or to the child’s teacher.
Your help in spreading the word and letting parents know about these opportunities would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the important role you play in keeping our community informed and connected.
Looking forward to staying in touch,
Lauren Hunter LMFT, ATR

What about Canyon School? Seems LAUSD forgot that kids there have been greatly affected as well, just bc the school didn’t burn down, but many lost their homes or transferred in from Pali and Marquez post fire. They haven’t done ANY counseling offerings there. LAUSD never thinks outside what they’re explicitly pleaded with to do—but they have to know hundreds more kids need help!
Tracy – I don’t think LAUSD is offering these services. I think it’s Cedars-Sinai that is doing these sessions.
