Palisades Vet Opens on Via de la Paz

Dr. L examined this editor’s 13-year-old dog Shadow at the clinic on Via de la Paz.

Pacific Palisades Veterinary Center opened on Monday, July 7 – but this editor was not aware.

Our dog Shadow, a client of Pali Vet, had come down with an awful cough. It had been ongoing for about two weeks. Over July 4, it was hard to get an appointment – anywhere.

This editor like many people with pets, reached out several places and was finally given an appointment on July 16 in West Los Angeles. I was told that if it were an emergency, I could take the canine to an pet emergency room (just what I didn’t want was  to take a sick dog to a room filled with other sick animals).

But, I took the appointment and debated about going to an emergency room. Then Palisades resident Jeff Ridgway, who never left the Palisades during the evacuation nor moved from his apartment on Haverford, told me good news.

“Pali Vet is now open,” he said. “I saw Dr. L, just now, who told me that they are ready for patients to stop by.”

I called (310) 573-7707 and received an appointment for today, July 9 at 9:30 a.m. Currently they are taking patients between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is parking on the street, 853 Via de la Paz and joyfully, the parking meters are gone, for now.

The Vet building on Via and the Dry-cleaning building at Via and Antioch are the two sole buildings that survived the Palisades Fire. The interior of the vet building is super clean, and an air filter makes it “easy” to breath, the air seems so clean.

After listening to Shadow’s heart, Dr. L said the heart was fine and it was most likely bronchitis. I elected to have an x-ray done, which was read, and bronchitis was the diagnosis. Shadow received cough pills and an antibiotic, which was filled at the Center.

Yes, Dr. Catalina Litochleb is back and so are some of her staff – and not a minute too soon click here.
