12 Who Perished in January 7 Palisades Fire to be Remembered

A “White Glove Flag Presentation and Remembrance Ceremony” will be held to honor the 12 people who perished in the January 7, 2025, Palisades Fire. The ceremony will also honor those who died this past year, either of shock, “broken heart” or who were unable to go on.

This event is led by the American Legion and sponsored and organized by a group of Palisades recovery organizations and established community groups. A flyover is planned if weather conditions are favorable. Several news outlets have expressed interest in attending, as well as possible federal government representatives.

Starting at 8 a.m. there will be breakfast and a private white glove presentation of flags for the families of those lost and for invited guests. The event will be live-streamed outside of the Ronald Reagan American Legion Post 283 on La Cruz Drive for public viewing. There will be a special invocation for those lost, with accompanying music by the Palisades Symphony.

The flag above the Post flew during the fire, lit by a spotlight, and survived the flames. There will be a dedication of that “survivor flag” to be preserved, which includes retirement of that Palisades Post Office flag and raising of a replacement flag, with an accompanying bugler.

Around 10:20 a.m., led by local clergy and a Color Guard, a procession to the Village Green, will include representatives from the American Legion, the Army National Guard, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, special government officials and select relief organizations. There will be accompanying bagpipers.

All Palisadian fire survivors are welcome to walk respectfully in the memorial procession. Families of those who passed will be part of the procession and will place flowers at the memorial.

Around 10:30 a.m. there will be a ringing of the bells, wreath presentations, and moment of remembrance on the Village Green honoring those lost.

Afterwards there will be a lunch at the Ronald Reagan American Legion Post 283.

Also planned is a flyover and possibly there will be high-ranking government officials at the wreath laying.

Is Karen Bass one of the invited guests? Just wondering

This is at the same time as the “They let us burn” demonstration. Are these two events located adjacent to each other in conflict or complimentary to each other? Are the organizers coordinating their efforts? Is there a master playbook?

  3. Sue says:

    Not to my knowledge.
