Art Association guest speaker Marlaya Charleston used water colors to paint this whimsical piece titled “Fish Freeway”

Meeting, Art Group Show and Art Sale

MONTHLY MEETING:

          The Pacific Palisades Art Association monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at 6 p.m. in the Palisades Library community room, 861 Alma Real.

          The guest speaker is Marlaya Charleston (marlayacharleston.com), who will discuss how she creates poetry that complements her paintings.

          Charleston began her formal training at the age of 16 at The Art Students League in New York City. She studied at the Parsons School of Design, Cooper Union and earned her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from The School of Visual Arts.

          Her work has been featured in more than 35 group exhibitions in Los Angeles, as well as several solo exhibitions. She says her work has been influenced by African Art, German Expressionists, Picasso and Matisse and the work on her website includes examples of mixed media, whimsical, figurative and jazz art.

SUMMER ART SHOW:

          The 2019 Summer Group Show will feature all art categories. The event is open to all members of the Art Association and there is a $10 entry fee per item. Artwork must have a sturdy hanging wire and be no larger than 42 inches on any side.

          Entries may be brought to the library on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. A reception will be held on  June 15 from 10 a.m. to noon and artists must retrieve their works on Saturday, July 27 between 10 a.m. and noon. If work is not picked up, the artist will be charged a $10 transportation and storage fee.

ANNUAL ART SALE:

          The Village Green Art Show and Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain will cancel the event) on Sunday, June 9, on the Village Green. Set-up time for artists is 9:30 a.m. Residents are invited to purchase art and support local artists.
