Tour buses were spotted driving people through Pacific Palisades on Saturday. A resident wrote: “A picture of a tour bus license plate was taken on the Las Casas Loop today by a neighbor’s brother. He didn’t get the name of the bus company, because he was driving, but said it probably had over 50 people in it.”
Another neighbor saw a “Lone Star Tours” bus on the loop further on down near the view site area overlooking PCH.
Daphne Gronich, the Las Casas Loop neighborhood representative for Team Palisades wrote, “People are not happy that tour buses are making money taking groups to see our misfortune. We certainly don’t need tour buses looping through our neighborhoods. Traffic is congested enough, and the streets are already in bad condition.”
Pacific Palisades Residents Association President Jessica Rogers wrote: “What a mess. We deserve better. Our safety and our well being should be the absolute priority of the city. This is no way to treat residents suffering from the worst disaster of our time.
“We need HELP. See our tears, hear our cries,” she said. “Our children miss their pets and teddy bears while politicians pay us lip service because they say they don’t have funds. If we are going to be treated like zoo animals the least the city could do is charge a hefty tax for every visitor and an extra fee for all art exhibits on properties.”
L.A. Mayor Karen Bass’ office was contacted and spokesperson Paige Sterling responded, “Thanks for reaching out about this – DOT is aware and we’re actively looking into anything that can be done to address this in the community. Profiting off this tremendous loss is disgraceful. We’ll stay on top of this.”
Councilmember Traci Park said, “I am disgusted and appalled that any ‘business’ would exploit this tragedy for profit. My team and I will urgently seek legal guidance and evaluate any necessary legislative steps to shut any such activity down.”
