Flutist Suzanne Snizek will perform this weekend.

Chamber Music Palisades continues its programming despite the venue (Palisades United Community Methodist Church) and founder Susan Greenberg’s home burning to the ground.

The Sunday, February 23 concert will take place at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica, 1008, 11th Street. There is free parking across the street.

Greenberg wrote, “I hope that people will show up in Santa Monica. Let’s say the show must go on and Chamber music is stepping up to the plate,”

The artists featured are varied, interesting and some of the top musicians, not only in Los Angeles, but internationally.

For example, flutist Suzanne Snizek is one of the five artists in this concert. She is an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Victoria (British Columbia, Canada) where she teaches flute, chamber music and a course called “Issues in Suppressed Music.”

Her performance-based research and academic scholarship focuses on twentieth century music that was suppressed under Nazism and/or Communism. She is an expert in Suppressed Music. She was the 2017 REACH award recipient for “Excellence in Creative Expression” from the University of Victoria, where her acclaimed first recording (2017) was “Chamber Music (Re)Discoveries.” Her second album is “Renewed Voices”, which was released in April 2024. A third album “Music of Resilience” (featuring music by Raphael and Hartmann) will be released in early 2025.

Stephanie Yu will perform on Saturday.

She will be joined by Susan Greenberg (flute), Hui Wu (piano), Pierre Long-Tao Tang (piano) and Stephanie Yu (violin).

The program will include excerpts from: Beethoven Violin Sonata No. 7 in c minor, op. 100;  Poulenc Sonata for flute and piano;  Dvorak Slavonic Dances, op. 46   for four hands; No. 1 in C major (Furiant);  No. 2 in E minor (Dumka); No. 8 in G minor (Furiant); Brahms Violin Sonata No. 2 in A major, op 100;Flothuis Aubade for solo flute; Doppler Andante and Rondo for 2 flutes and piano; Gershwin 3 preludes arranged for flute, violin, piano; and Bonis Suite en trio for flute, violin and piano, Op. 59.

This promises to be a musically enjoyable afternoon, with a varied program.

The concert is free, and donations are welcomed either at the concert or via the website campalisades.org.

Flutist Susan Greenberg, she told CTN that when she evacuated, “I did get out my instruments that I needed, some jewelry, some passports and the key to the safety deposit box. And very little else.” Come support Greenberg as she keeps this Palisades organization alive.

Hui Wu will perform in the Saturday concert.
