Waiting: L.A. County Relief Grants Still Possible?

A woman, who lived in Tahitian Terrace and lost everything, applied for a L.A. County Relief Grant.

L.A. County Relief Fund received FireAid Money.  The description said it would supply cash assistance to  homeowners and tenants.

According to the Website click here. “In response to the devastating 2025 Los Angeles County Wildfires, the County has established the Los Angeles County Relief Fund. “This fund, supported by an initial $32.2 million in County funds, will provide direct financial relief to homeowners, tenants, workers, small business owners, and nonprofits most affected by the fires.”

A reader wrote yesterday that he didn’t feel it received a lot of press, and that the window to apply was a two-week period: Feb. 25-March 12.

“Unlike other programs, like Red Cross, SBA, or FEMA, they never extended the deadline,” the reader said. “I don’t know how our older neighbors without computers who are most in need of this could have gotten much of anything out of it.”

Another reader wrote, “This grant had a lot of press but yes, the window to apply was short. There were two different grants. One for $6,000 for individuals and $18,000 for families. Some people found the application complex. I did not. I applied for this grant February 26. I got a call in the beginning of May that one page did not go through. I was told it would be reviewed.

“I called again this morning. (1888-788-0335) I was told my application was still being validated. It had gone to the second stage of review. Validation was based on impact, need, insurance, social needs and health.

“I lost my home and all my work. I am considered low income. (I’m the local cat sitter and content creator.) I lived in the Tahitian Terrace which was under rent control, but I owned my home and have insurance. I know a handful of people who received the $6000 in April. It is three months later since I applied. I need to rent an apartment. I have been staying with family. Gee whiz, I was told there were no guarantees I would receive this grant.”
