Annually, since the early 1990s the Friends of the Palisades Library have held a summer writing contest for youth.
Now that schools are coming to a close, this might be a perfect summer project. All entries, which can be any literary style, must be submitted by September 3, 2024.
This contest is open for grades one through 12, and the top three winners in each category receive gift certificates to Diesel Books (first place $100, second place $75 and third place $50). There will be an awards ceremony on October 9 at 4 p.m.
The theme this year is: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To… The Friends hope that this will “lead to many amusing and creative stories.”
Contestants are limited to one entry not to exceed TWO pages (double spaced) typed in font size 12. Misspelled words are acceptable for younger entrants. Entries which an adult has written or edited will be judged accordingly.
Friends write that “The charm of many entries is in the creative mistakes of a beginning writer.”
Entries may be submitted online or in person at the Palisades library. Each entry must have a completed entry form.
Contestants may not copy anyone else’s work or use any form of AI.
