Something to Do Over Thanksgiving: Go to the Bay Theater

The Bay Theater at 1035 Swarthmore is playing at least three films this editor would love to see over the Thanksgiving week holiday, November 22 through December 1, starting with Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

The movie stars Steve Martin (Neal Page) and John Candy (Del Griffith), who are on a quest to make it home in time for Thanksgiving. Everyone who has ever traveled over the hectic holiday, will laugh out loud, as the “upright” Steve Martin becomes paired with a travel companion, loud obnoxious, but loveable John Candy in a quest to make it home.

Spellbound sounds like it would be a great family film. The story follows the adventures of Ellian, the tenacious young daughter of the rulers of Lumbria who must go on a daring quest to save her family and kingdom after a mysterious spell transforms her parents into monsters.  The film is directed by Vicky Jenson (Shrek) with original score from EGOT-winning composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast) and lyrics by Glenn Slater (Tangled).

And, Our Little Secret, a romantic comedy sounds like it might be fun. The film is described as two resentful exes, (Lindsey Lohan and Ian Harding) are forced to spend Christmas under the same roof after discovering their current partners are siblings. With so much family drama at the holidays this editor looks for comedies and this film might take the stress out of the day.

It appears that Wicked and Gladiator II will steal the box office this week, but why bother with crowds? Ignore the freeway traffic and have a relaxed time on Swarthmore.

Order some food:  the menu includes favorites include Classic Burger, the Southwest Bowl, a grilled chicken, the Prosciutto Artichoke pizza, and the Avocado Chicken BLT. To drink, choices include everything from malted milk shakes to wine, beer, and cocktails. The kitchen is open everyday from the beginning of the first show until the beginning of the last show.
