NEANDERTHALS PERFORMED ROOT CANALS:
By Sue Pascoe May 17, 2026
The Wall Street Journal in the Saturday/Sunday May 16-17 edition had a story (Neanderthals Performed Root Canals, Study Finds). The story even included a photo of a damaged Neanderthal molar. Supposedly the “dentist” used a small stone tool with a narrow tip made of jasper. . . “the Neanderthal dentis would have held the tooth between the thumb and forefinger and rotated back and forth while pressing down. . .while a helper held the patient’s head still.” This editor will never, ever complain about any future dental procedure.
THE HIVE:
This editor missed the Hive last week, so I could attend a hearing downtown regarding Jonathon Rinderknecht, the man accused of arson in the Lachman Fire. I look forward to see everyone tomorrow, May 18, at the Hive at 4242 AMLI Via Marina in Marina Del Rey at 8 ish. All are welcome.
KANAN AT SANTA MONICA
Join Stephanie Kanan at the 8:30 a.m. Monday get together for displaced residents affected by the Palisades Fire. Kanan says, “If you are back home great or if you are still figuring it all out, we are here for you. If you lost your business like Gordon, Shirley and I, we are here for each other to keep our community going!! Our new location while our other place is being remodeled is Bardonna Coffeehouse 1601 Montana Ave.” Stephanie (310) 612-9741.
PARENTING:
Brandon Webb has a new book on parenting and in an interview in the WSJ, he writes “I keep seeing these successful parents who obviously love their kids but give in too much. You can’t focus solely on your career and outsource being a parent – and then wonder why your kids are going in a really dark direction.” He also made a good point “The world is tough. It’s not always fair. They’ve got to deal with this stuff.”
