SECRET SERVICE PROTECTION

By Sue Pascoe · July 29, 2024

Robert F. Kennedy, who is running for president of the United States, finally has U.S. Secret Service Protection. President Joe Biden ensured he would have it after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Six police cars pulled up by Starbucks on Swarthmore, early a.m. on July 28. Several men peeled out of each of the vehicles. This editor asked what it was about, and the agent said that it was security for RFK.

BOOK DONATIONS

Volunteers will accept gently read books inside the Palisades Library, 861 Alma Real, on Wednesdays and Saturdays through August 31. Donation days are July 27 and 31 and August 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28 and 31. Only books in good condition can be accepted. NO magazines, textbooks, CDs, DVDs, encyclopedias or library books. DO NOT LEAVE BOOKS OUTSIDE, DO NOT drop off donations when volunteers are not present.

GOTCHA

This editor takes a weekly yoga class and before class started, we were told to think of an intention, so I decided not to judge – judge how I was doing, judge how those around me were doing. It was tougher than I thought.

Why do we find our self-confidence in being better than someone else and why do we depend on our confidence to come from what other people think?

Then in church on Sunday, Paster John Shaver spoke about the Olympics and Simon Biles. The Olympian said, “I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. I’m the first Simon Biles.” The New York Times wrote July 28, “Simon Biles Is Done Being Judged.” And Shaver spoke about Great Britan breaststroker Adam Peaty, 29, who has broken the world record five times. In 2023, Peaty stopped swimming. He took time to find who he was, without letting those around him judge him. He emerged from a mental health crisis, finding his faith – and coming back to swimming. Peaty took the silver in the 2024 Olympics on Sunday.
