Under Conductor Larry Newman, the All School Elementary Orchestra Concert that is held annually will now take place on Saturday, May 1,1 at Bel Air Church, 16211 Mulholland Drive. NOTE: this is a NEW venue, because “UCLA has called off all scheduled events at Schoenberg Hall for the coming weekend because of the current disturbances, including the 24th Annual All Schools Elementary Honor Orchestra Concert.”
Instead of two shows, a single show will be held at 11 a.m. and admission is free, no tickets are required. This concert celebrates music education in local schools, and more than 120 students have been chosen to participate. “Music is alive and well in Los Angeles,” Newman said.
Students range in age from seven to 12, and the average age of an honor orchestra member is 10. Each child is individually selected by his/her school music teacher to participate.
“These students are exceptionally talented, and together, make music that inspires not only their parents, but also anyone in Los Angeles who is interested in music, the arts and education,” Newman said. “The honors orchestra is a diverse group of children that come together to play beautiful music in a professional concert setting. It is a shining example of the importance of music in our local schools.”
Children’s Music Workshop, founded by Newman more than 30 years ago, provides instrumental music instruction to schools throughout Los Angeles–including public and private schools in the Palisades.
This is the 24th annual concert and is produced by Larry and Tyler Newman, who have won numerous Emmy Awards in the Children/Youth Programming category for this program. The orchestra has been honored by the Los Angeles City Council.
