The American Legion Radio Cadre (ALRC), aka Ham Radio, will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, at the Ronald Reagan American Legion Post 283, located on 15247 La Cruz Drive.
The ALRC meets monthly on the first Thursday. People interested in amateur radio for pleasure or emergency preparedness are welcome.
You do not have to be a member of the American Legion to participate. There are no dues or fees. During the meeting members share experiences, questions, and exchange thoughts on amateur radio related topics.
Post 283 has invested in the radio room, equipment and, most impactfully, the antenna farm maintained on its La Cruz property.
It is a great opportunity to explore the world of radio communications which are infused throughout our daily life. Direct questions and comments to radio@post283.com, marie_mckenna@yahoo.com, or hank@brightoperations.com.
Remember Earthquakes or fires may take out all forms of communication or prevent first responders from knowing about a dire need. Electricity may be out and people who only have a cell phone may not be able to communicate.
That is why many people turn to a long-time standby, Amateur Radio or Ham Radio. People can use ham radio in emergencies to talk across town or across the nation without the Internet or cell phones.
