MORE FIREAID HOMELESS MONEY
One might assume that FIREAID money going to help people from Pacific Palisades to help either with rent, mortgages or rebuilds. It’s not. This money is going to homeless nonprofits that already receive state and city funding. For 50 years, St. Joseph Center has empowered working-poor families and people experiencing homelessness to achieve stability and self-sufficiency. St. Joseph Center received $100,000 from FireAid. In 2024 on ProPublica, the group listed revenue as $50,427, 256 and other salaries and wages were listed as 39.7%.
NATIONAL PARKS FREE MONDAY
On Presidents Day, Monday, February 16, National Parks will be free if you are a U.S. Resident. Foreigners will have to pay the regular fee. A standard pass is $15 to $30, an annual pass is $55 and America the Beautiful Pass is $20 for seniors, $80 for residents and $250 for nonresidents. Little known fact U.S. fourth graders are free. Here are the nine national parks in California: Channel Islands (the boat ride won’t be free), Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Lassen, Pinnacles, Redwood, Sequoia and Kings Canyon, and Yosemite.
WATCHING MOGUL SKIING
The Olympic Mogul event saw USA’s Elizabeth Lemley win gold and her teammate Jaelin Kauf took silver—as I watched them go over the bumps, there was nothing but admiration. The only way I could go down that hill would be one bump at a time – on my butt—and even then I might need medical help.
