Susan Shelly, VP of communications for the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, arguably the most influential taxpayer advocacy groups in California, will speak Sunday, January 23, in Pacific Palisades.
Her topic is “What’s Going to Be on Your November 2022 Ballot.” Shelly will talk about the ballot process, including efforts to repeal Proposition 19.
In November 2020, California voters approved Proposition 19, with just 51 percent of the vote. The amendment limits people who inherit family properties from keeping the low property tax base, unless they use the home as their primary residence. It also allows homeowners who are over 55 years of age, disabled, or victims of a wildfire or natural disaster to transfer the assessed value of their primary home to a newly purchased or newly constructed replacement primary residence up to three times.
Sponsored by the Pacific Palisades Republican Club, the in-person gathering with Shelly will be limited to 45 people. To attend, RSVP to ninamadok@gmail.com.
