In a special one-night concert, the Choir of Clare College, Cambridge University, will perform a program in celebration of Advent and Christmas on Friday, December 8, 8 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Church.
The selections survey five centuries of appropriate seasonal music, including settings of the text O Magnum Mysterium by the 16th century Spanish composer Cristobal Morales, and more contemporary settings by Francis Poulenc and Morten Lauridsen.
Founded in 1972, the Choir of Clare College leads services three times week in the college chapel but also keeps an active schedule recording, broadcasting and performing. The group has also produced a discography of more than 40 recordings, under Graham Ross on the Harmonic Mundi label.
Their latest album, Rolling River features American choral works by Barber, Bernstein and others.
Tickets are $45 or a Music Guild pass. Tom Neenan, Guild president will participate in an interview with the choir director Graham Ross at 7:15 p.m.
