This nonprofit received a Wildfire Recovery Grant from the California Community Foundation.

On person on social media wrote: “I have a question: Where are all the millions that was donated for the fire victims?”

Good question. Not one person who lost a home in the fire, that I know of, has received any compensation/aid from the massive fundraisers that were held.

Many people in the Palisades are “underwater” on their properties, meaning the insurance will not pay enough to cover construction/building costs. Others who were in affordable housing are not sure they will be able to return, unless they have financial help.

Desperately needed is to help people make up the difference between the total loss of their property and rebuilding. Look to Lahaina, which received an enormous amount of aid after the 2023 wildfire that damaged more than 2,000 residential properties.  But the aid that was needed, was not another piece of clothing, but help with construction costs/rebuilding. In January 2025, so far three homes have been built.

A resident wrote on social media: Old timers who might possibly give up quickly and sell cheap should be subsidized by the massive donations now pouring in to help fire survivors. Pacific Palisades is the “PALISADES TRIBE” of people who live, work and own property here rather than the real-estate business. I believe preserving our community is more important than building luxury mansions for new people on the land of old timers.”

That is true in not only the Palisades Fire, but the Altadena Fire. Where did $30 million go?

The California Community Foundation in a February 14 press lease wrote:

Today, CCF announced a second round of Wildfire Recovery grants—over $15 million in additional grants for 84 nonprofits. This brings the total aid granted by CCF to $30 million – half of the $60 million raised so far. More funds will be distributed as rebuilding continues.

Our new grantees offer support ranging in direct financial aid, legal support, artist support, disability services, mental health services, health and social services, senior and youth services, housing assistance, business stabilization, and much more click here.

The first list of grantees included the following nonprofits: End Poverty in California -EPIC, the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, CARECEN (Central American Resource Center-that advocates for immigrant rights) IDEPSCA (instituto de Educacion  Popular del Sur de California (advocates for workers’ rights and supports underserved communities), the Pilipino Work Center, Forestry and Fire Recruitment Program (for underserved communities), Brown Bag Lady (delivers meals to unhoused individuals), Pukuu Cultural Community Services, and the list goes on click here.

A second list of grants include those to: Pacoima Beautiful, Koreatown Youth & Community Center, Inc, Northern California Indian Development Council, the American Muslim Community Foundation – and that list is long, too click here.

Who’s donating? The donor page: click here.

One resident wrote,  “Where are the funds to rebuild the playgrounds, the library, the gym? I suspect if you dig into the required tax forms each nonprofits has to file, you will find the executive director salaries are staggering. ”

And just like that, it seems the people that need help in rebuilding, will not have it from wildfire donations given to nonprofits.

    So unfair and disappointing!!!

  2. Gretchen ARNOLD says:

In the list above of “grantees” it appears that none of them have any relationship to the communities burned … ie the Palisades or Altadena.. just another thing to add to the hate bus …

  3. Dana Dalton says:

What crooks to ask for money and then give it to nonprofits thst have nothing to do with the fires. LA is SO corrupt and the fires are the result of this

  4. Cindy Simon says:

Disgraceful allocation of funds raised for Palisades & Altadena fire relief causes and infrastructure YET being granted to random non-profits totally unaffiliated with these two communities… How can that be? Does anyone who throws in a grant application get awarded one? Maybe I’ll toss in a grant application for my non-profit which closed 4 years ago and see if I’m awarded the money
    EXPLAIN & JUSTIFY CCF !!!!

  5. Matt says:

Our California and LA City government is a complete and utter disgrace. 100% corrupt and totally incompetent. How can anybody vote for these people and still defend their actions?! It’s the definition of insanity yet I still see people defending them!

  6. Yet another scam on the backs of people who have lost their homes. The entire Board of Directors of California Community Foundation Should be imprisoned for Fraud.

  7. Sarah says:

what about the people who are still unhoused and directed to live in shelters now – how can they get help
