Corpus Christi Catholic Church, located less than a block from Fire Station 69, burned in the January Palisades Fire.
The church, built in 1964, had a mid-century modernist design created by the Los Angeles-based firm AC Martin Architects.
The interior featured significant artistic elements, including large, abstract stained-glass windows created by the world-renowned artist Claire Falkenstein.
According to the L.A. Times “her work at Corpus Christi was a pioneering example of integrating modern abstract art into a sacred space, marking a significate moment in modern religious architecture.”
The house of worship will be rebuilt. Currently, members are gathering at the Carondelet Center, located at 11999 Chalon Road, Los Angeles 90049.
Sunday mass is at 9:30 a.m.
There is ongoing religious education programs for children in first grade through eighth grade and ongoing confirmation preparation for teens in grades 9 to 12.
This year Christmas Masses will be held at the Carondelet Center on December 24 at 4 p.m. and on December 25 at 9:30 and 11 a.m. All are welcome.

As Monsignor Liam Kidney writes to the congregation: “We are a people who live in hope as we move from Ordinary Time into the season of Advent with a prophetic vision lighting our path through the darkness. The first reading on the First Sunday of Advent, captures the spirit of anticipation and hope when people can beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks, never again to take up the weapons of war against each other or learn war. This vision provides us with impetus for hope.”

The annual Thanksgiving Interfaith celebration was held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church one year.

So inspirational. Thrilled Corpus Christi is moving forward in such a profound way. Perhaps a profile on the other churches that burned… especially Pali Pres and Methodist, which were totally destroyed.
Pali Pres is currently worshipping at Brentwood Pres with a thriving youth and teen program. Both are struggling with new restrictions the “current administration” is putting on applicants for FEMA resources. A horrible maze to navigate with restrictions changing weekly. But yet there is so much support from literally around the world.
The A.C. Martin architectural firm participated in the design of L.A. City Hall, and they designed the DWP Building, The May Company Building (now the Academy Museum), as well as many other well-known projects. Locally in the Palisades they also designed the Frontier Building, as well as the ranch-style homes in the Southdown Estates subdivision of the St. Matthew’s property (lower Akron, lower Las Pulgas, and Bienveneda between Sunset and St. Matthew’s).
