LEE CALVERT EXPRESSES THANKS

By Sue Pascoe · April 2, 2020

Lee Calvert, 95, was the first recipient of the The Draycott dinner give-away, which is taking place during the coronavirus restaurant shutdown. Calvert sent an April 2 email to CTN and Marissa Hermer, co-owner of The Draycott:

“How can I tell you how much I appreciated the lovely dinner Marissa brought me. For sure, the DRAYCOTT is on my list of places to go – food is great, Marissa is terrific – and I do so much appreciate it…chicken never tasted so good, greens – even bread (which I seldom eat) was soooo good – pasta, too. And the topper – a homemade berry cake – light and so tasty …. Marissa, when this is over (pandemic) my first restaurant outing will be The Draycott….hang in there, girl.”

A MESSAGE FROM MOM IN SOUTH DAKOTA

Noma Sazama, mom of CTN’s editor, wrote at 6:30 a.m. today from my home state of South Dakota: “12 degrees this morning, snowing and blowing. Good day to stay in and read. Stay warm and safe. Made bacon and pancakes for breakfast. Love you.”

Ahh, spring in South Dakota.

CINQUE TERRE CO-OWNER MARLO VINZONI WRITES

“I wanted to share good news. A good Samaritan, Lonnie, called the restaurant to buy croissants for the pharmacists at Pharmaca. When I delivered it this morning it brought smiles to their faces. It also put a smile on my face and my husband. Lonnie supported our restaurant and showed the pharmacists gratitude, too.”

(Editor’s note: Kudos to Lonnie, who helped two businesses!)

THANK-YOU TO MY READERS

A thoughtful reader alerted others on Nextdoor Palisades that I’m covering local news – with help from Bill Bruns, Bob Vickrey, Libby Motika and other writers. From that simple shout-out, about 200 people signed up as free subscribers this week and many of you sent donations to support fact-based journalism in Pacific Palisades. I am forever grateful, and I will keep delivering local news that really matters to you.

DOG POOP NEEDS ATTENTION

One reader wrote:

We have noticed with the increase in dog walking, there is a notable increase in the amount of dog poop left on the sidewalks. Wouldn’t it be nice if everybody was a good citizen and picked up after their dogs?!

It’s hard enough being quarantined without having to clean up another dog ‘s mess.

I know it can be irritating, especially since I needed a shovel for my front lawn yesterday. I thought maybe someone was walking a horse. But, here’s another thought. Many of our elderly are getting their dogs out and have trouble bending over. Maybe we can give them a break?
