WHY REPUBLICANS?
By Sue Pascoe · May 7, 2026
A reader wanted to know why I was carrying so many plugs for Republican candidates. Let me remind everyone that on April 20 I wrote: “There are too many candidates for this editor to interview before the primary. So, readers, it is up to you. Here’s the guidelines. Write 400 words about the candidate that you think people should consider—try not to “cut down or disparage” whoever they’re running against. This is about cheerleading your candidate. Remind people of the office they’re running for. You must include your name with the recommendation, and you must be a subscriber. Email it to [email protected] and I will run them as I receive them. One endorsement per candidate. CTN is not endorsing a particular candidate—I’m letting readers do that.
I agree that many of the candidate endorsements have been for Republicans—not my fault. Democrats, why are you not writing to support a candidate, and in the process making this editor look biased?
IT WAS A PINK NIGHT:
In the mayoral debate last night, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass and Nithya Raman both wore pink. In the gubernatorial debate, Katie Porter also wore a pink jacket. Now if we could get all the guys to color coordinate, too.
SOILS TEST RESULT:
An Alphabet Street resident sent a quote from a nearby neighbor’s soil test. “Exceptionally low contaminants; safe for residential/gardening/children. The soil outperforms many Los Angeles Urban Soils.” The resident concluded “I was wondering why all my trees, flowers, vegetables, and even the blueberries did so well – there were even some berries on the bushes, I picked.”
