The one known Palisadian to come away a winner from Sunday’s Golden Globes is Steven Spielberg.
The long-time Palisades resident produced Hamnet, which won the top award of the evening: Best Motion Picture, Drama.
Four other Palisadians were nominated in various categories and looked like they were having a good time at the show, despite not leaving with trophies. They are Adam Brody, Kate Hudson, Adam Sandler and Martin Short.
Don Cheadle was at the ceremony as an unannounced presenter. He showed up on the Beverly Hilton Hotel stage as his Ocean’s Twelve pal George Clooney was about to name nominees for the final award, which Spielberg and his co-producers eventually won for Hamnet.
Cheadle said he was there to give Clooney “moral support.” Then in a fun way, he chided Clooney for not winning the acting award he’d been nominated for earlier in the evening. The patter went back and forth for a couple of minutes before Hamnet was named the winner and Spielberg and his fellow producers, along with the cast and others, took the stage to claim their prize.
Earlier at the Golden Globes, the Palisades got a little mention. When Kleber Mendonça Filho, the Brazilian director of the winning non-English film, The Secret Agent, was giving his thank-you speech in English, he added “Martine, Tomás, hope you’re watching in Pacific Palisades right now. We’ll be with you soon!”
