A pedestrian bridge at Terminal 5 at Los Angeles International Airport, which will be demolished as part of a rebuilding of the terminal, will close lanes on the horseshoe loop to the terminals.
Temporary lane closures will occur for five nights at the lower/arrival level and for two nights on the upper/departure level. Look for heavy, unexpected traffic at arrivals starting at 11 p.m. Tuesday, January 6. All outer levels of the roadway will be closed at the bridge location with traffic diverted to inner lanes.
The lower-level entrance on World Way South to Parking Structure 6 will also be closed, as well as the Terminal 4 LAX-It shuttle stop and the Terminal 5 rental care shuttle stop. The closures will continue until 7 a.m. the following morning, with the closure repeated nightly through Saturday night into Sunday morning.
At midnight Wednesday night, all lanes on the upper level will be closed at the bridge location, with vehicles detouring to Upper East Way and Upper West Way.
Upper-level entrances to Parking Structures 2B and 5 will also be closed, along with the Terminal 4 Hotel and Private Parking shuttle stop. The closures will continue until 4 a.m. the following morning, and repeated Thursday night into Friday morning.
Signs will be in place to advise motorists of the detours, and flaggers will be positioned to help keep traffic moving, airport officials said.
