Celebrate an Old Tradition This Holiday Season

This is a photo from the 2020 L.A. County Holiday Celebration.

This editor’s Radcliffe neighbor Scott Berryman, who has returned to the Palisades and put up Christmas lights, wrote “I have had incredible feedback about why to put up Christmas lights this year.”

He mentioned that an old tradition that lifts spirits is the free L.A. County Holiday Celebration at the Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion from 3 to 6 p.m. on  December 24, 2025, (admission and parking are free). The doors open at 2 p.m.

This is the 66th annual holiday variety show. Angelenos of all ages can experience L.A.’s favorite holiday tradition with a free, three-hour live performance—also broadcast on PBS SoCal—featuring more than 20 local music ensembles, choirs and dance companies. The L.A. County Holiday Celebration is Southern California’s largest free holiday show, highlighting the diverse artistry, cultures and communities that call Los Angeles County home.

Although the event is free, one must have a ticket and those reservations open on December 16 at 10 a.m. Reservations can be made online, by phone or in person at The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Box Office. If you do not make a reservation, you can still attend the show by joining the standby line on the day of the event. Seating for standby patrons is subject to availability and not guaranteed.

“For anyone feeling the blues—and for those who remember when Huell Howser helped bring this event into our homes—attending this live, three-hour music and dance celebration can be a real emotional reset,” Berryman said.
