Conrad R. Solum Jr., beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, at the age of 90.
He and his wife, Alli, made their home in Pacific Palisades for more than 60 years, where they were deeply rooted in the community. Conrad and Alli were devoted members of Corpus Christi Church throughout those years, volunteering their time and talents to many parish activities.
Conrad was a proud member of the Optimist Club for many years, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service. Conrad lived a life marked by intellect, integrity, and devotion to family.
He was a proud graduate of the University of Southern California (USC), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1956, and later a Juris Doctor from USC Law School.
While at USC, he was a member of the USC Crew Team and the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity, cherishing friendships formed during his college years. His commitment to TKE was lifelong, where he served as Chairman of the Board for 55 years, helping to steer the Beta-Sigma USC chapter to excellence.
While at USC he met his future wife, Alli Lockwood, in 1955. They were married on June 4, 1960, at the Catholic Newman Center at USC. With a shared passion for sports, Alli and Conrad were lifelong USC football and basketball season ticket holders enjoying games all over the country.
Alli and Conrad were members of many USC organizations including Trojan Board of Directors, Committee, Cardinal and Gold, Associates and the Trojan Marching Band Board. They established a Town & Gown Endowed Scholarship and a TKE Endowed scholarship in their name.
After college, Conrad served honorably in the U.S. Army Reserves for three years before joining the Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG), where he combined his technical acumen and legal training in service to others.
Following his military service, Conrad joined Lyon & Lyon, a prestigious intellectual property law firm in Los Angeles, where he was senior partner and practiced for more than 40 years. His clients included Honda, Panavision, Pacific Life, Duraflame, Powerbait, and Maglight. His work in patent law reflected his lifelong passion for innovation, precision, and problem-solving.
Conrad was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alli Solum, with whom he shared 62 joyful years. He is survived by his children — Lori Middleton (Larry), Kami Miller (John), Kathy Solum, and Michael Solum (Jennifer). He is also survived by nine grandchildren — Kristien Hernandez (Michael), Meghan Blanchard (Kalon), Lindsey Beckerman, Dylan Beckerman, CJ Miller, Ryan Miller, Troy Miller, Sierra Solum and Kaia Solum, — and four great-grandchildren — Lucy Hernandez, Bo Hernandez, Mila Hernandez, and Bobby Blanchard — all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
Conrad will be remembered for his love of skiing, outdoor sports, all things USC, his steady wisdom, deep faith and his kindness. He was welcoming, humble, inclusive of all, and his quiet strength left an enduring impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Conrad and Alli Solum Town & Gown Scholarship https://townandgownofusc.org/donate/ , or the Conrad and Alli Solum TKE scholarship https://tkeusc.org/support/solum-scholarship/ , in Conrad’s memory.
