Evacuation was nearly impossible at Palisades Drive and Sunset Boulevard, with the result of people having to leave their cars and flee on foot to the Gladstones parking lot.
A UCLA-led research team is conducting a U.S. National Science Foundation (NFS) grant on Data Collection on Roadway Vehicle Abandonment in the Fast-Moving Los Angeles Wildfire Evacuations.
Researchers are seeking individuals who had to leave their vehicles and evacuate on foot during the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. With data collected, they hope to help emergency managers better predict when and where this happens so they can better support people trying to evacuate.
Stories from community members will be combined with advanced traffic data so researcher can predict when it might happen again and help to better prepare communities.
Interviews are 30-45 minutes, and eligible participants will be given a $50 Amazon gift card as a thank you for their time.
Anyone interested can respond to wildfire.evacuation.study@gmail.com to set up an interview time with us. More information regarding our research team and project is available here: https://sites.google.com/view/wildfire-evacuation-study
My family had 4 personal cars and a neighbors cars effected by this incident. I could not be angrier with the city and police departments handling of this situation.
