Several Palisades residents said they did not receive their absentee ballots for the November Special Election that has one item to be voted on: Prop. 50.
CTN spoke to L.A. County Registrar-Recorder spokesperson Mike Sanchez, who said that absentee ballots had been returned to the county because people had moved after the Palisades Fire. If there was a phone number on file, county officials had tried to contact a resident for a new address.
Sanches said there was still time to call tomorrow or Tuesday (800)-815-2666, select option 2 and a ballot will be sent. He emphasized that one can maintain their Palisades home address and just request to add a mailing address.
He said there is no hard deadline for those impacted by the fire, but to try and call by tomorrow, October 28 or 29.
What if one doesn’t receive that ballot? He said there is no issue going to a voter center and just voting regularly.
One person wrote that although the ballot said voting was taking place at Brentwood Science Magnet, currently – IT IS NOT. That location may be open from November 1-4.
To look for the closest center open now, go to LAVote.gov. Currently, the closest voting center for people living in the Palisades, appears to be either at UCLA, Civic Center in Santa Monica or Venice at the Oakwood Recreation Center. Click Here
Despite numerous communications from the LA County Registrar’s Office about the location of my ballot, I never received one at my Santa Monica forwarding address, despite receiving other forwarded mailings daily. As a consequence, I went to the Culver City Hall and walked into their voting center on Saturday at around 1:30pm. I was the sole voter in there with about 10 poll workers there to assist me. Using my Palisades address, it was no problem printing my ballot and voting in a booth. The staff there was very helpful.
