L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath is not only proclaiming a local emergency to deliver rapid assistance to immigrants, she is calling for community outreach on Ocean Avenue Housing program and taking steps to prevent fires.

On October 8, it was photos and an Instagram post to let people know that “we’re up above Topanga Canyon today with California Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot to see State and County partnership in action: clearing brush, cutting red tape, and preparing our communities for fire season.”

Several people responded to the post. One noted “A day late and a dollar short.” A second wrote “It’s OCTOBER much of that brush should have been cleared by May 1st. Yet another commented, “This is the perfect definition of gaslighting.”

Regarding the Ocean Avenue housing of the homeless/mentally ill in an unlocked facility, Horvath said “The Department of Mental Health did not inform my office about this project until after funding had already been secured — and that’s unacceptable.”

She added, “These projects arose from a housing developer reaching out to offer solutions for the challenges Santa Monica is facing. Unfortunately, the proposals moved forward without the transparent coordination and communication that a project of this scale demands.

“The City of Santa Monica has been calling for more beds to address the crises we see playing out on our streets — and we agree. We must move urgently to house people with acute mental health needs, but not at the expense of transparency or community partnership,” Horvath said

Actions speak louder than words. Horvath is a typical LA politician. She knows how to string words together and tell you what she thinks you want to hear. What she doesn’t seem capable of is any actual follow through. All you have to do is take a look at her record since in office. She has repeatedly deceived her constituents with lack of transparency and pushed policies that are never in alignment with her voter base. She was elected because people still want to believe that politicians mean what they say and most don’t have the patience to get to know who they are really voting for. It’s on us to do our homework and elect solid leaders.

I remember my Government teacher at Pali, Mr Polito, railing about the LA County charter entrusting 5 men with such incredible powers over such a sprawling and populated county. The only thing that has changed is the sexes.
